Kayla has devoted her life to protecting Steven, which means educating herself as much as possible about mystics (and their enemies).

She knows that he wouldn't be fully accepted everywhere in the mystic realm and that the laws of protection set in place for mortals would not apply to him. If he had been raised in his fathers realm, he would be expected to join the guild of his forefathers but he would not never be as strong as the others no matter how hard he tired. She doesn't want him to live in his father's shadow in the mystic realm.

She is also aware of the fact that there are hunters in the mortal realm that only over look him because he doesn't know any magic. Hanging out with mystics will draw attention to him, which may lead to Steven being hunted.

In her opinion, if he must date, it should be a mortal. He'll be safest with a mortal. A mystic girl would just bring curiosity, which may take him to the mystic realm, which may lead to him finding out who is dad is, who will tell him about his "birth right", and Cenric will have been right all along. So, no magical girls, period.
